sleep in it. 

i have gotten ready for sleep, 

and drawn back the covers on the bed

that you made. 

and i think the comforter is ugly

and the sheets don’t match

and the pillows aren’t fluffed

and maybe we should just throw the damn thing out entirely. 

 

but, 

i will stifle my resentments, 

although maybe i know i should not. 

 

because i like it, 

when you fill my head 

with pretty little nothings

and leave a kiss behind my ear

and distract me with hands that linger 

just long enough 

to make me say, 

 

“come back to bed,

we’ll talk in the morning.”
